Awards |
| The Driftless Area Art Festival
presents two awards to participating artists. One is the
Committee's Choice Award, given to the artist based on the
quality of the artist's body of work and the appeal of the
artist's overall booth. The other is the People's Choice
Award, given to the artist whose work garners the most votes
from the attendees as their favorite. The People's Choice
Award is sponsored by VIVA Gallery in Viroqua. |

The inaugural Committee's Choice Award
went to Joan Finnegan of Lanesboro, Minnesota, whose oil
paintings reflect her love of nature.
After 18 years as an owner of a retail frame shop and gallery in
southern Minnesota, Joni retired in early 2000 to create her own
artwork. She works "en plein air" or in her studio,
painting landscapes, still lifes, and scenes from her travels.
She teaches painting to adults and children and has written
three instructional books for the craft arts field. |
For the second year in a
row, Jamie Heiden of Holmen, Wisconsin, was voted the People's
Choice Award winner. She also won this year's Madison Art
Fair Off the Square Best of Photography Award and La Crosse's
Art Fair on the Green People's Choice Award, both for the second
time.
Jamie's photography features ordinary things in a creative
light. She's drawn to simple things, but she infuses her
images with texture and often a bit of whimsy...finding a little
fairy tale in every day. |
